1. Chip Shipments & Wafer Capacity to Grow in 2022

Semiconductor-starved industries will see a 9.2 percent increase in chip unit shipments this year, according to IC Insights. Wafer capacity is expected to grow by 8.7 percent in 2022 as a result of the addition of 10 new wafer fabs that are scheduled to open this year.

2. Visualizing All Electric Car Models Available in the U.S.

As of February 2022, there are 28 different electric vehicles available in the U.S., from 18 different manufacturers. There are a number of domestic and international manufacturers that sell EVs in America, including German manufacturer Audi, Swedish carmaker Volvo, and South Korean manufacturer Kia. The highest number of EV models on the market comes from Tesla.

3. Component Prices Increase 5-40%; Lead Times Extend to 1 Year

Since Q4 2021 Microchip has implemented a wide range of price increases between 5 percent to 40 percent across the board, with an average increase of 10 percent. Lead times are currently up to 50 weeks and any new orders are required to be no cancel, no return (NCNR) with a one-year delivery window.
