1. WHO CAUSED THE CHIP SHORTAGE CRISIS?

Haijun Zhao, the co-CEO of China’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (SMIC) pointed to the Key Factors: shortage of foundry supply, increasing demand for EVs, 5G handsets, smart home devices and equipment necessary for remote working, and hoardings from Chinese electronics industry.

2. INVENTORY OF AUTOMOTIVE CHIP MANUFACTURERS INCREASES IN Q3

The global supply of chips for the auto industry is improving after months of shortages, inventories have risen in value terms for the first time in nine months at leading suppliers at the end of September: Japan's Renesas Electronics, Dutch supplier NXP Semiconductors, Germany's Infineon Technologies, Switzerland-based STMicroelectronics and U.S.-based Texas Instruments.

3. NAND FLASH REVENUE RISES BY 15% QOQ FOR Q3 ’21

The growth of the NAND Flash market in 3Q21 was primarily driven by strong demand from the data center and smartphone industries. The industry’s quarterly total NAND Flash bit shipment increased by nearly 11% QoQ for 3Q21, and the overall NAND Flash ASP rose by nearly 4% QoQ for the same quarter. Thanks to rising prices and expanding shipments, the quarterly total NAND Flash revenue increased by 15% QoQ to a new record high of US$18.8 billion in 3Q21.
