1. WT MICROELECTRONICS ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF EXCELPOINT TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE PRODUCT OFFERINGS AND MARKET EXPANSION

WT Microelectronics Co., Ltd. and Excelpoint Technology Ltd. have entered into a agreement to which WT will acquire 100% equity in Excelpoint at over S$232.2 million. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2022. The established customer bases combined would significantly improve the distribution capabilities and customer portfolios of WT in the Asia Pacific region.

2. AUTOMAKERS EXPECT CHIP SHORTAGES TO LAST UNTIL 2024

The chief executive of carmaker BMW, Oliver Zipse, said that the shortage of automotive semiconductors may continue until 2023. In response to the shortage, BMW signed a deal with Inova Semiconductors and Globalfoundries Inc. to guarantee an annual supply of millions of chips. Volkswagen's finance chief, Arno Antlitz, expects the semiconductor shortage to continue into 2024 because chipmakers will not be able to meet rising demand for semiconductors even as more chip production comes on line.

3. M&A: LITTLEFUSE WILL ACQUIRE C&K SWITCHES

Littelfuse Inc., a $2.1 billion manufacturer of circuit protection products, electronic switches and automotive sensors, has announced it will acquire switch maker C&K Switches for $540 million. The transaction is expected to close during the second calendar quarter of 2022. The C&K acquisition is part of Littelfuse’s long-term growth roadmap to expand its business via organic growth and through strategic acquisitions.
